ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ॥ आपे करता सभु जिसु करणा ॥ Aapé karṫaa sabʰ jis karṇaa. O Creator, it is You Yourself who does all. ਮਾਰੂ ਸੋਲਹੇ ੩ ॥ मारू सोलहे ३ ॥ Maaroo solhé 3. Maaroo, Solhay, Third Mehl: ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥ जीअ जंत सभि तेरी सरणा ॥ Jee▫a janṫ sabʰ ṫéree sarṇaa. All beings and creatures are under Your Protection. ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ आपे गुपतु वरतै सभ अंतरि गुर कै सबदि पछाता हे ॥१॥ Aapé gupaṫ varṫæ sabʰ anṫar gur kæ sabaḋ pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||1|| You are hidden, and yet permeating within all; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, You are realized. ||1|| ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ हरि के भगति भरे भंडारा ॥ Har ké bʰagaṫ bʰaré bʰandaaraa. Devotion to the Lord is a treasure overflowing. ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ आपे बखसे सबदि वीचारा ॥ Aapé bakʰsé sabaḋ veechaaraa. He Himself blesses us with contemplative meditation on the Shabad. ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ जो तुधु भावै सोई करसहि सचे सिउ मनु राता हे ॥२॥ Jo ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ so▫ee karsėh saché si▫o man raaṫaa hé. ||2|| You do whatever You please; my mind is attuned to the True Lord. ||2|| ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲੋ ॥ आपे हीरा रतनु अमोलो ॥ Aapé heeraa raṫan amolo. You Yourself are the priceless diamond and jewel. ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲੋ ॥ आपे नदरी तोले तोलो ॥ Aapé naḋree ṫolé ṫolo. In Your Mercy, You weigh with Your scale. ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ जीअ जंत सभि सरणि तुमारी करि किरपा आपि पछाता हे ॥३॥ Jee▫a janṫ sabʰ saraṇ ṫumaaree kar kirpaa aap pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||3|| All beings and creatures are under Your protection. One who is blessed by Your Grace realizes his own self. ||3|| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥ जिस नो नदरि होवै धुरि तेरी ॥ Jis no naḋar hovæ ḋʰur ṫéree. One who receives Your Mercy, O Primal Lord, ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥ मरै न जंमै चूकै फेरी ॥ Maræ na jammæ chookæ féree. does not die, and is not reborn; he is released from the cycle of reincarnation. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ माइआ मोहि सभु जगतु उपाइआ ॥ Maa▫i▫aa mohi sabʰ jagaṫ upaa▫i▫aa. Emotional attachment to Maya wells up throughout the whole world, ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ साचे गुण गावै दिनु राती जुगि जुगि एको जाता हे ॥४॥ Saaché guṇ gaavæ ḋin raaṫee jug jug éko jaaṫaa hé. ||4|| He sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, day and night, and, throughout the ages, he knows the One Lord. ||4|| ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਦੇਵ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ ब्रहमा बिसनु देव सबाइआ ॥ Barahmaa bisan ḋév sabaa▫i▫aa. from Brahma, Vishnu and all the demi-gods. ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ जो तुधु भाणे से नामि लागे गिआन मती पछाता हे ॥५॥ Jo ṫuḋʰ bʰaaṇé sé naam laagé gi▫aan maṫee pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||5|| Those who are pleasing to Your Will, are attached to the Naam; through spiritual wisdom and understanding, You are recognized. ||5|| ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ पाप पुंन वरतै संसारा ॥ Paap punn varṫæ sansaaraa. The world is engrossed in vice and virtue. ਹਰਖੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥ हरखु सोगु सभु दुखु है भारा ॥ Harakʰ sog sabʰ ḋukʰ hæ bʰaaraa. Happiness and misery are totally loaded with pain. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ गुरमुखि होवै सो सुखु पाए जिनि गुरमुखि नामु पछाता हे ॥६॥ Gurmukʰ hovæ so sukʰ paa▫é jin gurmukʰ naam pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||6|| One who becomes Gurmukh finds peace; such a Gurmukh recognizes the Naam. ||6|| ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ पूरबि लिखिआ सो फलु पाइआ जिनि आपु मारि पछाता हे ॥७॥ Poorab likʰi▫aa so fal paa▫i▫aa jin aap maar pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||7|| One who conquers self-conceit and recognizes the Lord, obtains the fruits of his predestined rewards. ||7|| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥ गुर कै सबदे मोख दुआरा ॥ Gur kæ sabḋé mokʰ ḋu▫aaraa. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one finds the door of salvation. ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ किरतु न कोई मेटणहारा ॥ Kiraṫ na ko▫ee métaṇhaaraa. No one can erase the record of one’s actions. ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥ दूजै भाइ घणा दुखु आगै ॥ Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é gʰaṇaa ḋukʰ aagæ. In the love of duality, he will suffer terrible agony in the world hereafter. ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ माइआ मोहि हरि सिउ चितु न लागै ॥ Maa▫i▫aa mohi har si▫o chiṫ na laagæ. Emotionally attached to Maya, one’s consciousness is not attached to the Lord. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ मनमुख भरमि भुले भेखधारी अंत कालि पछुताता हे ॥८॥ Manmukʰ bʰaram bʰulé bʰékʰ▫ḋʰaaree anṫ kaal pachʰuṫaaṫaa hé. ||8|| The hypocritical, self-willed Manmukhs are deluded by doubt; at the very last moment, they regret and repent. ||8|| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥ हरि कै भाणै हरि गुण गाए ॥ Har kæ bʰaaṇæ har guṇ gaa▫é. In accordance with the Lord’s Will, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ सभि किलबिख काटे दूख सबाए ॥ Sabʰ kilbikʰ kaaté ḋookʰ sabaa▫é. He is rid of all sins, and all suffering. ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ हरि निरमलु निरमल है बाणी हरि सेती मनु राता हे ॥९॥ Har nirmal nirmal hæ baṇee har séṫee man raaṫaa hé. ||9|| The Lord is immaculate, and immaculate is the Word of His Bani. My mind is imbued with the Lord. ||9|| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ जिस नो नदरि करे सो गुण निधि पाए ॥ Jis no naḋar karé so guṇ niḋʰ paa▫é. One who is blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace, obtains the Lord, the treasure of virtue. ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥ हउमै मेरा ठाकि रहाए ॥ Ha▫umæ méraa tʰaak rahaa▫é. Egotism and possessiveness are brought to an end. ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ गुण अवगण का एको दाता गुरमुखि विरली जाता हे ॥१०॥ Guṇ avgaṇ kaa éko ḋaaṫaa gurmukʰ virlee jaaṫaa hé. ||10|| The One Lord is the only Giver of virtue and vice, merits and demerits; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand this. ||10|| ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ मेरा प्रभु निरमलु अति अपारा ॥ Méraa parabʰ nirmal aṫ apaaraa. My God is immaculate, and utterly infinite. ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ आपे मेलै गुर सबदि वीचारा ॥ Aapé mélæ gur sabaḋ veechaaraa. God unites with Himself, through contemplation of the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ आपे बखसे सचु द्रिड़ाए मनु तनु साचै राता हे ॥११॥ Aapé bakʰsé sach driṛ▫aa▫é man ṫan saachæ raaṫaa hé. ||11|| He Himself forgives, and implants the Truth. The mind and body are then attuned to the True Lord. ||11|| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ मनु तनु मैला विचि जोति अपारा ॥ Man ṫan mælaa vich joṫ apaaraa. Within the polluted mind and body is the Light of the Infinite Lord. ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ गुरमति बूझै करि वीचारा ॥ Gurmaṫ boojʰæ kar veechaaraa. One who understands the Guru’s Teachings, contemplates this. ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ हउमै मारि सदा मनु निरमलु रसना सेवि सुखदाता हे ॥१२॥ Ha▫umæ maar saḋaa man nirmal rasnaa sév sukʰ▫ḋaaṫa hé. ||12|| Conquering egotism, the mind becomes immaculate forever; with his tongue, he serves the Lord, the Giver of peace. ||12|| ਗੜ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਹਟ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥ गड़ काइआ अंदरि बहु हट बाजारा ॥ Gaṛ kaa▫i▫aa anḋar baho hat baajaaraa. In the fortress of the body there are many shops and bazaars; ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ तिसु विचि नामु है अति अपारा ॥ Ṫis vich naam hæ aṫ apaaraa. within them is the Naam, the Name of the utterly infinite Lord. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ गुर कै सबदि सदा दरि सोहै हउमै मारि पछाता हे ॥१३॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ saḋaa ḋar sohæ ha▫umæ maar pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||13|| In His Court, one is embellished forever with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad; he conquers egotism and realizes the Lord. ||13|| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ गुर कै सबदे तोलि तोलाए अंतरि सबदि पछाता हे ॥१४॥ Gur kæ sabḋé ṫol ṫolaa▫é anṫar sabaḋ pachʰaaṫaa hé. ||14|| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, it is weighed, and so the Shabad is realized deep within. ||14|| ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ रतनु अमोलकु अगम अपारा ॥ Raṫan amolak agam apaaraa. The jewel is priceless, inaccessible and infinite. ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥ कीमति कवणु करे वेचारा ॥ Keemaṫ kavaṇ karé véchaaraa. How can the poor wretch estimate its worth? ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥ सिम्रिति सासत्र बहुतु बिसथारा ॥ Simriṫ saasṫar bahuṫ bisṫʰaaraa. The great volumes of the Smritis and the Shastras, ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ माइआ मोहु पसरिआ पासारा ॥ Maa▫i▫aa moh pasri▫aa paasaaraa. only extend the extension of attachment to Maya. ਮੂਰਖ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ मूरख पड़हि सबदु न बूझहि गुरमुखि विरलै जाता हे ॥१५॥ Moorakʰ paṛėh sabaḋ na boojʰėh gurmukʰ virlæ jaaṫaa hé. ||15|| The fools read them, but do not understand the Word of the Shabad. How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand. ||15|| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ आपे करता करे कराए ॥ Aapé karṫaa karé karaa▫é. The Creator Himself acts, and causes all to act. ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ सची बाणी सचु द्रिड़ाए ॥ Sachee baṇee sach driṛ▫aa▫é. Through the True Word of His Bani, Truth is implanted deep within. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੯॥ नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई जुगि जुगि एको जाता हे ॥१६॥९॥ Naanak naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee jug jug éko jaaṫaa hé. ||16||9|| O Nanak! Through the Naam, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and throughout the ages, the One Lord is known. ||16||9||
