ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ निरमल सबदु निरमल है बाणी ॥ Nirmal sabaḋ nirmal hæ baṇee. The Word of the Shabad is Immaculate and Pure; the Bani of the Word is Pure. ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ माझ महला ३ ॥ Maajʰ mėhlaa 3. Maajh, Third Mehl: ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ निरमल बाणी हरि सालाही जपि हरि निरमलु मैलु गवावणिआ ॥१॥ Nirmal baṇee har saalaahee jap har nirmal mæl gavaavṇi▫aa. ||1|| So, praise the Immaculate Word of the Lord’s Bani; chanting the Immaculate Name of the Lord, all filth is washed away. ||1|| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ निरमल जोति सभ माहि समाणी ॥ Nirmal joṫ sabʰ maahi samaaṇee. The Light which is pervading among all is Immaculate. ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਬਦੋ ਸੁਣਿ ਤਿਸਾ ਮਿਟਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ हरि निरमलु गुर सबदि सलाही सबदो सुणि तिसा मिटावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Har nirmal gur sabaḋ salaahee sabḋo suṇ ṫisaa mitaavṇi▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Praise the Immaculate Lord, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. Listen to the Shabad, and quench your thirst. ||1||Pause|| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ हउ वारी जीउ वारी सुखदाता मंनि वसावणिआ ॥ Ha▫o vaaree jee▫o vaaree sukʰ▫ḋaaṫa man vasaavaṇi▫aa. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Giver of peace within their minds. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥ निरमल नामु वसिआ मनि आए ॥ Nirmal naam vasi▫aa man aa▫é. When the Immaculate Naam comes to dwell in the mind, ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ मनु तनु निरमलु माइआ मोहु गवाए ॥ Man ṫan nirmal maa▫i▫aa moh gavaa▫é. the mind and body become Immaculate, and emotional attachment to Maya departs. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ निरमल गुण गावै नित साचे के निरमल नादु वजावणिआ ॥२॥ Nirmal guṇ gaavæ niṫ saaché ké nirmal naaḋ vajaavaṇi▫aa. ||2|| Sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate True Lord forever, and the Immaculate Sound-current of the Naad shall vibrate within. ||2|| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ निरमल अमृतु गुर ते पाइआ ॥ Nirmal amriṫ gur ṫé paa▫i▫aa. The Immaculate Ambrosial Nectar is obtained from the Guru. ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਮੁਆ ਤਿਥੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ विचहु आपु मुआ तिथै मोहु न माइआ ॥ vichahu aap mu▫aa ṫiṫʰæ moh na maa▫i▫aa. When selfishness and conceit are eradicated from within, then there is no attachment to Maya. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ निरमल गिआनु धिआनु अति निरमलु निरमल बाणी मंनि वसावणिआ ॥३॥ Nirmal gi▫aan ḋʰi▫aan aṫ nirmal nirmal baṇee man vasaavaṇi▫aa. ||3|| Immaculate is the spiritual wisdom, and utterly immaculate is the meditation, of those whose minds are filled with the Immaculate Bani of the Word. ||3|| ਜੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ जो निरमलु सेवे सु निरमलु होवै ॥ Jo nirmal sévé so nirmal hovæ. One who serves the Immaculate Lord becomes immaculate. ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੇ ਧੋਵੈ ॥ हउमै मैलु गुर सबदे धोवै ॥ Ha▫umæ mæl gur sabḋé ḋʰovæ. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the filth of egotism is washed away. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਵਾਜੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ निरमल वाजै अनहद धुनि बाणी दरि सचै सोभा पावणिआ ॥४॥ Nirmal vaajæ anhaḋ ḋʰun baṇee ḋar sachæ sobʰaa paavṇi▫aa. ||4|| The Immaculate Bani and the Unstruck Melody of the Sound-current vibrate, and in the True Court, honor is obtained. ||4|| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ निरमल ते सभ निरमल होवै ॥ Nirmal ṫé sabʰ nirmal hovæ. Through the Immaculate Lord, all become immaculate. ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰੋਵੈ ॥ निरमलु मनूआ हरि सबदि परोवै ॥ Nirmal manoo▫aa har sabaḋ parovæ. Immaculate is the mind which weaves the Word of the Lord’s Shabad into itself. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ निरमल नामि लगे बडभागी निरमलु नामि सुहावणिआ ॥५॥ Nirmal naam lagé badbʰaagee nirmal naam suhaavaṇi▫aa. ||5|| Blessed and very fortunate are those who are committed to the Immaculate Name; through the Immaculate Name, they are blessed and beautified. ||5|| ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜੋ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹੈ ॥ सो निरमलु जो सबदे सोहै ॥ So nirmal jo sabḋé sohæ. Immaculate is the one who is adorned with the Shabad. ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥ निरमल नामि मनु तनु मोहै ॥ Nirmal naam man ṫan mohæ. The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, entices the mind and body. ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ सचि नामि मलु कदे न लागै मुखु ऊजलु सचु करावणिआ ॥६॥ Sach naam mal kaḋé na laagæ mukʰ oojal sach karaavaṇi▫aa. ||6|| No filth ever attaches itself to the True Name; one’s face is made radiant by the True One. ||6|| ਮੈਲਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਮੈਲੈ ਥਾਇ ॥ मैला चउका मैलै थाइ ॥ Mælaa cha▫ukaa mælæ ṫʰaa▫é. Filthy is that kitchen, and filthy is that dwelling; ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ मनु मैला है दूजै भाइ ॥ Man mælaa hæ ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é. The mind is polluted by the love of duality. ਮੈਲਾ ਖਾਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ मैला खाइ फिरि मैलु वधाए मनमुख मैलु दुखु पावणिआ ॥७॥ Mælaa kʰaa▫é fir mæl vaḋʰaa▫é manmukʰ mæl ḋukʰ paavṇi▫aa. ||7|| eating filth, the self-willed Manmukhs become even more filthy. Because of their filth, they suffer with pain. ||7|| ਮੈਲੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਭਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ मैले निरमल सभि हुकमि सबाए ॥ Mælé nirmal sabʰ hukam sabaa▫é. The filthy, and the immaculate as well, are all subject to the Hukam of God’s Command. ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਏ ॥ से निरमल जो हरि साचे भाए ॥ Sé nirmal jo har saaché bʰaa▫é. They alone are immaculate, who are pleasing to the True Lord. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੯॥੨੦॥ नानक नामु वसै मन अंतरि गुरमुखि मैलु चुकावणिआ ॥८॥१९॥२०॥ Naanak naam vasæ man anṫar gurmukʰ mæl chukaavaṇi▫aa. ||8||19||20|| O Nanak! The Naam abides deep within the minds of the Gurmukhs, who are cleansed of all their filth. ||8||19||20||
