ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ हरि सिउ प्रीति अंतरु मनु बेधिआ हरि बिनु रहणु न जाई ॥ Har si▫o pareeṫ anṫar man béḋʰi▫aa har bin rahaṇ na jaa▫ee. The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ सोरठि महला ४ ॥ Soratʰ mėhlaa 4. Sorat’h, Fourth Mehl: ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ जिउ मछुली बिनु नीरै बिनसै तिउ नामै बिनु मरि जाई ॥१॥ Ji▫o machʰulee bin neeræ binsæ ṫi▫o naamæ bin mar jaa▫ee. ||1|| Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord’s Name. ||1|| ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥ मेरे प्रभ किरपा जलु देवहु हरि नाई ॥ Méré parabʰ kirpaa jal ḋévhu har naa▫ee. O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name. ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ हउ अंतरि नामु मंगा दिनु राती नामे ही सांति पाई ॥ रहाउ ॥ Ha▫o anṫar naam mangaa ḋin raaṫee naamé hee saaⁿṫ paa▫ee. Rahaa▫o. I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. ||Pause|| ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ जिउ चात्रिकु जल बिनु बिललावै बिनु जल पिआस न जाई ॥ Ji▫o chaaṫrik jal bin billaavæ bin jal pi▫aas na jaa▫ee. The song-bird cries out for lack of water - without water, its thirst cannot be quenched. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ गुरमुखि जलु पावै सुख सहजे हरिआ भाइ सुभाई ॥२॥ Gurmukʰ jal paavæ sukʰ sėhjé hari▫aa bʰaa▫é subʰaa▫ee. ||2|| The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. ||2|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ मनमुख भूखे दह दिस डोलहि बिनु नावै दुखु पाई ॥ Manmukʰ bʰookʰé ḋah ḋis dolėh bin naavæ ḋukʰ paa▫ee. The self-willed Manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer with pain. ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ जनमि मरै फिरि जोनी आवै दरगहि मिलै सजाई ॥३॥ Janam maræ fir jonee aavæ ḋargahi milæ sajaa▫ee. ||3|| They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. ||3|| ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ क्रिपा करहि ता हरि गुण गावह हरि रसु अंतरि पाई ॥ Kirpaa karahi ṫaa har guṇ gaavah har ras anṫar paa▫ee. But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord’s elixir. ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥ नानक दीन दइआल भए है त्रिसना सबदि बुझाई ॥४॥८॥ Naanak ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aal bʰa▫é hæ ṫarisnaa sabaḋ bujʰaa▫ee. ||4||8|| The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. ||4||8||
