ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੨॥
गुर सेवा महलु पाईऐ जगु दुतरु तरीऐ ॥२॥
Gur sévaa mahal paa▫ee▫æ jag ḋuṫar ṫaree▫æ. ||2||
Serving the Guru, the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence is obtained, and the impassable world-ocean is crossed over. ||2||

ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
द्रिसटि तेरी सुखु पाईऐ मन माहि निधाना ॥
Ḋarisat ṫéree sukʰ paa▫ee▫æ man maahi niḋʰaanaa.
By Your Glance of Grace, peace is obtained, and the treasure fills the mind.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
जा कउ तुम किरपाल भए सेवक से परवाना ॥३॥
Jaa ka▫o ṫum kirpaal bʰa▫é sévak sé parvaanaa. ||3||
That servant, unto whom You bestow Your Mercy, is approved and accepted. ||3||
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੋ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
अमृत रसु हरि कीरतनो को विरला पीवै ॥
Amriṫ ras har keerṫano ko virlaa peevæ.
How rare is that person who drinks in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord’s Kirtan.

ਵਜਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੧੬॥
वजहु नानक मिलै एकु नामु रिद जपि जपि जीवै ॥४॥१४॥११६॥
vajahu Naanak milæ ék naam riḋ jap jap jeevæ. ||4||14||116||
Nanak has obtained the commodity of the One Name; he lives by chanting and meditating on it within his heart. ||4||14||116||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੁਲੀ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
जा प्रभ की हउ चेरुली सो सभ ते ऊचा ॥
Jaa parabʰ kee ha▫o chérulee so sabʰ ṫé oochaa.
I am God’s maid-servant; He is the highest of all.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ਥੋਰਾ ਅਰੁ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੧॥
सभु किछु ता का कांढीऐ थोरा अरु मूचा ॥१॥
Sabʰ kichʰ ṫaa kaa kaaⁿdʰee▫æ ṫʰoraa ar moochaa. ||1||
All things, big and small, are said to belong to Him. ||1||
|
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਧਨੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮਨੀਆ ॥
जीअ प्रान मेरा धनो साहिब की मनीआ ॥
Jee▫a paraan méraa ḋʰano saahib kee manee▫aa.
I surrender my soul, my breath of life, and my wealth, to my Lord Master.

ਨਾਮਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਕੈ ਊਜਲੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਾਸੀ ਗਨੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामि जिसै कै ऊजली तिसु दासी गनीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naam jisæ kæ oojlee ṫis ḋaasee ganee▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Through His Name, I become radiant; I am known as His slave. ||1||Pause||
|
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਅਨੰਦ ਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਮਾਣਕ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
वेपरवाहु अनंद मै नाउ माणक हीरा ॥
véparvaahu anand mæ naa▫o maaṇak heeraa.
You are Carefree, the Embodiment of Bliss. Your Name is a gem, a jewel.

ਰਜੀ ਧਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੀਰਾ ॥੨॥
रजी धाई सदा सुखु जा का तूं मीरा ॥२॥
Rajee ḋʰaa▫ee saḋaa sukʰ jaa kaa ṫooⁿ meeraa. ||2||
One who has You as her Master, is satisfied, satiated and happy forever. ||2||
|
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਰੀ ਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਉ ॥
सखी सहेरी संग की सुमति द्रिड़ावउ ॥
Sakʰee sahéree sang kee sumaṫ ḋariṛaava▫o.
O my companions and fellow maidens, please implant that balanced understanding within me.

ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਤਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥੩॥
सेवहु साधू भाउ करि तउ निधि हरि पावउ ॥३॥
Sévhu saaḋʰoo bʰaa▫o kar ṫa▫o niḋʰ har paava▫o. ||3||
Serve the Holy Saints lovingly, and find the treasure of the Lord. ||3||
|
ਸਗਲੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਸਭ ਕਹਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
सगली दासी ठाकुरै सभ कहती मेरा ॥
Saglee ḋaasee tʰaakuræ sabʰ kahṫee méraa.
All are servants of the Lord Master, and all call Him their own.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੧੭॥
जिसहि सीगारे नानका तिसु सुखहि बसेरा ॥४॥१५॥११७॥
Jisahi seegaaré naankaa ṫis sukʰėh baséraa. ||4||15||117||
She alone dwells in peace, O Nanak! Whom the Lord adorns. ||4||15||117||

ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਏਹੁ ਅਚਾਰਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥
संता की होइ दासरी एहु अचारा सिखु री ॥
Sanṫaa kee ho▫é ḋaasree éhu achaaraa sikʰ ree.
Become the servant of the Saints, and learn this way of life.
|
ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਊਤਮੋ ਭਰਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਪਿਖੁ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
सगल गुणा गुण ऊतमो भरता दूरि न पिखु री ॥१॥
Sagal guṇaa guṇ ooṫmo bʰarṫaa ḋoor na pikʰ ree. ||1||
Of all virtues, the most sublime virtue is to see your Husband Lord near at hand. ||1||
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥
इहु मनु सुंदरि आपणा हरि नामि मजीठै रंगि री ॥
Ih man sunḋar aapṇaa har naam majeetʰæ rang ree.
So, dye this mind of yours with the color of the Lord’s Love.

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਚਾਤੁਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣੁ ਗੁਪਾਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तिआगि सिआणप चातुरी तूं जाणु गुपालहि संगि री ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ṫi▫aag si▫aaṇap chaaṫuree ṫooⁿ jaaṇ gupaalėh sang ree. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Renounce cleverness and cunning, and know that the Sustainer of the world is with you. ||1||Pause||
|
ਭਰਤਾ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
भरता कहै सु मानीऐ एहु सीगारु बणाइ री ॥
Bʰarṫaa kahæ so maanee▫æ éhu seegaar baṇaa▫é ree.
Whatever your Husband Lord says, accept that, and make it your decoration.

ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਤੰਬੋਲਾ ਖਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
दूजा भाउ विसारीऐ एहु त्मबोला खाइ री ॥२॥
Ḋoojaa bʰaa▫o visaaree▫æ éhu ṫambolaa kʰaa▫é ree. ||2||
Forget the love of duality, and chew upon this betel leaf. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਪਕੋ ਇਹ ਸਤ ਕੀ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਛਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
गुर का सबदु करि दीपको इह सत की सेज बिछाइ री ॥
Gur kaa sabaḋ kar ḋeepko ih saṫ kee séj bichʰaa▫é ree.
Make the Word of the Guru’s Shabad your lamp, and let your bed be Truth.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਰਹੁ ਤਉ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
आठ पहर कर जोड़ि रहु तउ भेटै हरि राइ री ॥३॥
Aatʰ pahar kar joṛ rahu ṫa▫o bʰétæ har raa▫é ree. ||3||
Twenty-four hours a day, stand with your palms pressed together, and the Lord, your King, shall meet you. ||3||
|
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਚਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਈ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥
तिस ही चजु सीगारु सभु साई रूपि अपारि री ॥
Ṫis hee chaj seegaar sabʰ saa▫ee roop apaar ree.
She alone is cultured and embellished, and she alone is of incomparable beauty.

ਸਾਈ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਣੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੧੮॥
साई सुोहागणि नानका जो भाणी करतारि री ॥४॥१६॥११८॥
Saa▫ee sohagaṇ naankaa jo bʰaaṇee karṫaar ree. ||4||16||118||
She alone is the happy soul-bride, O Nanak! Who is pleasing to the Creator Lord. ||4||16||118||

ਡੀਗਨ ਡੋਲਾ ਤਊ ਲਉ ਜਉ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
डीगन डोला तऊ लउ जउ मन के भरमा ॥
Deegan dolaa ṫa▫oo la▫o ja▫o man ké bʰarmaa.
As long as there are doubts in the mind, the mortal staggers and falls.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਾਟੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥੧॥
भ्रम काटे गुरि आपणै पाए बिसरामा ॥१॥
Bʰaram kaaté gur aapṇæ paa▫é bisraamaa. ||1||
The Guru removed my doubts, and I have obtained my place of rest. ||1||
|
ਓਇ ਬਿਖਾਦੀ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੂਟੇ ॥
ओइ बिखादी दोखीआ ते गुर ते हूटे ॥
O▫é bikʰaaḋee ḋokʰee▫aa ṫé gur ṫé hooté.
Those quarrelsome enemies have been overcome, through the Guru.

ਹਮ ਛੂਟੇ ਅਬ ਉਨੑਾ ਤੇ ਓਇ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हम छूटे अब उन्हा ते ओइ हम ते छूटे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ham chʰooté ab unĥaa ṫé o▫é ham ṫé chʰooté. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I have now escaped from them, and they have run away from me. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਾ ॥
मेरा तेरा जानता तब ही ते बंधा ॥
Méraa ṫéraa jaanṫaa ṫab hee ṫé banḋʰaa.
He is concerned with ’mine and yours’, and so he is held in bondage.

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਤਬ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਫੰਧਾ ॥੨॥
गुरि काटी अगिआनता तब छुटके फंधा ॥२॥
Gur kaatee agi▫aanṫaa ṫab chʰutké fanḋʰaa. ||2||
When the Guru dispelled my ignorance, then the noose of death was cut away from my neck. ||2||
|
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਤਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਲਉ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
जब लगु हुकमु न बूझता तब ही लउ दुखीआ ॥
Jab lag hukam na boojʰ▫ṫaa ṫab hee la▫o ḋukʰee▫aa.
As long as he does not understand the Command of God’s Will, he remains miserable.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੀਆ ॥੩॥
गुर मिलि हुकमु पछाणिआ तब ही ते सुखीआ ॥३॥
Gur mil hukam pachʰaaṇi▫aa ṫab hee ṫé sukʰee▫aa. ||3||
Meeting with the Guru, he comes to recognize God’s Will, and then, he becomes happy. ||3||
|
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੋਖੀਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
ना को दुसमनु दोखीआ नाही को मंदा ॥
Naa ko ḋusman ḋokʰee▫aa naahee ko manḋaa.
I have no enemies and no adversaries; no one is wicked to me.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੈ ਬੰਦਾ ॥੪॥੧੭॥੧੧੯॥
गुर की सेवा सेवको नानक खसमै बंदा ॥४॥१७॥११९॥
Gur kee sévaa sévko Naanak kʰasmæ banḋaa. ||4||17||119||
That servant, who performs the Lord’s service, O Nanak! Is the slave of the Lord Master. ||4||17||119||

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
सूख सहज आनदु घणा हरि कीरतनु गाउ ॥
Sookʰ sahj aanaḋ gʰaṇaa har keerṫan gaa▫o.
Peace, celestial poise and absolute bliss are obtained, singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises.

ਗਰਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
गरह निवारे सतिगुरू दे अपणा नाउ ॥१॥
Garah nivaaré saṫguroo ḋé apṇaa naa▫o. ||1||
Bestowing His Name, the True Guru removes the evil omens. ||1||
|
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
बलिहारी गुर आपणे सद सद बलि जाउ ॥
Balihaaree gur aapṇé saḋ saḋ bal jaa▫o.
I am a sacrifice to my Guru; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him.
