ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.

ਉਜਲੁ ਕੈਹਾ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਘੋਟਿਮ ਕਾਲੜੀ ਮਸੁ ॥
उजलु कैहा चिलकणा घोटिम कालड़ी मसु ॥
Ujal kæhaa chilkaṇaa gʰotim kaalṛee mas.
Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears.
|
ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥
धोतिआ जूठि न उतरै जे सउ धोवा तिसु ॥१॥
Ḋʰoṫi▫aa jootʰ na uṫræ jé sa▫o ḋʰovaa ṫis. ||1||
Washing it, its impurity is not removed, even if it is washed a hundred times. ||1||
|
ਸਜਣ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੰਨੑਿ ॥
सजण सेई नालि मै चलदिआ नालि चलंन्हि ॥
Sajaṇ sé▫ee naal mæ chalḋi▫aa naal chalaⁿniĥ.
They alone are my friends, who travel along with me;

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जिथै लेखा मंगीऐ तिथै खड़े दिसंनि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jiṫʰæ lékʰaa mangee▫æ ṫiṫʰæ kʰaṛé ḋisann. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
and in that place, where the accounts are called for, they appear standing with me. ||1||Pause||
|
ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਹਾ ॥
कोठे मंडप माड़ीआ पासहु चितवीआहा ॥
Kotʰé mandap maaṛee▫aa paashu chiṫvee▫aahaa.
There are houses, mansions and tall buildings, painted on all sides;

ਢਠੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਖਣੀਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
ढठीआ कंमि न आवन्ही विचहु सखणीआहा ॥२॥
Dʰatʰee▫aa kamm na aavnĥee vichahu sakʰ▫ṇee▫aahaa. ||2||
but they are empty within, and they crumble like useless ruins. ||2||
|
ਬਗਾ ਬਗੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਸੰਨੑਿ ॥
बगा बगे कपड़े तीरथ मंझि वसंन्हि ॥
Bagaa bagé kapṛé ṫiraṫʰ manjʰ vasaⁿniĥ.
The herons in their white feathers dwell in the sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਘੁਟਿ ਘੁਟਿ ਜੀਆ ਖਾਵਣੇ ਬਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਹੀਅਨੑਿ ॥੩॥
घुटि घुटि जीआ खावणे बगे ना कहीअन्हि ॥३॥
Gʰut gʰut jee▫aa kʰaavṇé bagé naa kahee▫aniĥ. ||3||
They tear apart and eat the living beings, and so they are not called white. ||3||
|
ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮੈ ਮੈਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੰਨੑਿ ॥
सिंमल रुखु सरीरु मै मैजन देखि भुलंन्हि ॥
Simmal rukʰ sareer mæ mæjan ḋékʰ bʰulaⁿniĥ.
My body is like the Simmal tree; seeing me, other people are fooled.

ਸੇ ਫਲ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਹੰਨੑਿ ॥੪॥
से फल कंमि न आवन्ही ते गुण मै तनि हंन्हि ॥४॥
Sé fal kamm na aavnĥee ṫé guṇ mæ ṫan haⁿniĥ. ||4||
Its fruits are useless - just like the qualities of my body. ||4||
|
ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਡੂਗਰ ਵਾਟ ਬਹੁਤੁ ॥
अंधुलै भारु उठाइआ डूगर वाट बहुतु ॥
Anḋʰulæ bʰaar utʰaa▫i▫aa doogar vaat bahuṫ.
The blind man is carrying such a heavy load, and his journey through the mountains is so long.

ਅਖੀ ਲੋੜੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾ ਹਉ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘਾ ਕਿਤੁ ॥੫॥
अखी लोड़ी ना लहा हउ चड़ि लंघा कितु ॥५॥
Akʰee loṛee naa lahaa ha▫o chaṛ langʰaa kiṫ. ||5||
My eyes can see, but I cannot find the Way. How can I climb up and cross over the mountain? ||5||
|
ਚਾਕਰੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਤੁ ॥
चाकरीआ चंगिआईआ अवर सिआणप कितु ॥
Chaakree▫aa chang▫aa▫ee▫aa avar si▫aaṇap kiṫ.
What good does it do to serve, and be good, and be clever?

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥
नानक नामु समालि तूं बधा छुटहि जितु ॥६॥१॥३॥
Naanak naam samaal ṫooⁿ baḋʰaa chʰutėh jiṫ. ||6||1||3||
O Nanak! Contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be released from bondage. ||6||1||3||

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਬੇੜੁਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਵਹੇਲਾ ॥
जप तप का बंधु बेड़ुला जितु लंघहि वहेला ॥
Jap ṫap kaa banḋʰ béṛulaa jiṫ langʰėh vahélaa.
Build the raft of meditation and self-discipline, to carry you across the river.

ਨਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਊਛਲੈ ਐਸਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
ना सरवरु ना ऊछलै ऐसा पंथु सुहेला ॥१॥
Naa sarvar naa oochʰlæ æsaa panṫʰ suhélaa. ||1||
There will be no ocean, and no rising tides to stop you; this is how comfortable your path shall be. ||1||
|
ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਜੀਠੜਾ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਸਦ ਰੰਗ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तेरा एको नामु मंजीठड़ा रता मेरा चोला सद रंग ढोला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ṫéraa éko naam manjeetʰ▫ṛaa raṫaa méraa cholaa saḋ rang dʰolaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Your Name alone is the color, in which the robe of my body is dyed. This color is permanent, O my Beloved. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸਾਜਨ ਚਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
साजन चले पिआरिआ किउ मेला होई ॥
Saajan chalé pi▫aari▫aa ki▫o mélaa ho▫ee.
My beloved friends have departed; how will they meet the Lord?

ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੰਠੜੀਐ ਮੇਲੇਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
जे गुण होवहि गंठड़ीऐ मेलेगा सोई ॥२॥
Jé guṇ hovėh gantʰ▫ṛee▫æ mélégaa so▫ee. ||2||
If they have virtue in their pack, the Lord will unite them with Himself. ||2||
|
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
मिलिआ होइ न वीछुड़ै जे मिलिआ होई ॥
Mili▫aa ho▫é na veechʰuṛæ jé mili▫aa ho▫ee.
Once united with Him, they will not be separated again, if they are truly united.
|
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
आवा गउणु निवारिआ है साचा सोई ॥३॥
Aavaa ga▫oṇ nivaari▫aa hæ saachaa so▫ee. ||3||
The True Lord brings their comings and goings to an end. ||3||
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਸੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਚੋਲਾ ॥
हउमै मारि निवारिआ सीता है चोला ॥
Ha▫umæ maar nivaari▫aa seeṫaa hæ cholaa.
One who subdues and eradicates egotism, sews the robe of devotion.
|
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੋਲਾ ॥੪॥
गुर बचनी फलु पाइआ सह के अमृत बोला ॥४॥
Gur bachnee fal paa▫i▫aa sah ké amriṫ bolaa. ||4||
Following the Word of the Guru’s Teachings, she receives the fruits of her reward, the Ambrosial Words of the Lord. ||4||
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਖਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
नानकु कहै सहेलीहो सहु खरा पिआरा ॥
Naanak kahæ sahéleeho saho kʰaraa pi▫aaraa.
Says Nanak, O soul-brides, our Husband Lord is so dear!

ਹਮ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੀਆ ਦਾਸੀਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੫॥੨॥੪॥
हम सह केरीआ दासीआ साचा खसमु हमारा ॥५॥२॥४॥
Ham sah kéree▫aa ḋaasee▫aa saachaa kʰasam hamaaraa. ||5||2||4||
We are the servants, the hand-maidens of the Lord; He is our True Lord and Master. ||5||2||4||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
सूही महला १ ॥
Soohee mėhlaa 1.
Soohee, First Mehl:

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥
जिन कउ भांडै भाउ तिना सवारसी ॥
Jin ka▫o bʰaaⁿdæ bʰaa▫o ṫinaa savaarasee.
Those whose minds are filled with love of the Lord, are blessed and exalted.
|
ਸੂਖੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਸਾਉ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ ॥
सूखी करै पसाउ दूख विसारसी ॥
Sookʰee karæ pasaa▫o ḋookʰ visaarasee.
They are blessed with peace, and their pains are forgotten.
|
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥
सहसा मूले नाहि सरपर तारसी ॥१॥
Sahsaa moolé naahi sarpar ṫaarsee. ||1||
He will undoubtedly, certainly save them. ||1||
|
ਤਿਨੑਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥
तिन्हा मिलिआ गुरु आइ जिन कउ लीखिआ ॥
Ṫinĥaa mili▫aa gur aa▫é jin ka▫o leekʰi▫aa.
The Guru comes to meet those whose destiny is so preordained.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥
अमृतु हरि का नाउ देवै दीखिआ ॥
Amriṫ har kaa naa▫o ḋévæ ḋeekʰi▫aa.
He blesses them with the Teachings of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.
|
ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥
चालहि सतिगुर भाइ भवहि न भीखिआ ॥२॥
Chaalėh saṫgur bʰaa▫é bʰavėh na bʰeekʰi▫aa. ||2||
Those who walk in the Will of the True Guru, never wander begging. ||2||
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥
जा कउ महलु हजूरि दूजे निवै किसु ॥
Jaa ka▫o mahal hajoor ḋoojé nivæ kis.
And one who lives in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, why should he bow down to any other?
|
ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
दरि दरवाणी नाहि मूले पुछ तिसु ॥
Ḋar ḋarvaaṇee naahi moolé puchʰ ṫis.
The gate-keeper at the Lord’s Gate shall not stop him to ask any questions.

ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥
छुटै ता कै बोलि साहिब नदरि जिसु ॥३॥
Chʰutæ ṫaa kæ bol saahib naḋar jis. ||3||
And one who is blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace - by his words, others are emancipated as well. ||3||
|
ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
घले आणे आपि जिसु नाही दूजा मतै कोइ ॥
Gʰalé aaṇé aap jis naahee ḋoojaa maṫæ ko▫é.
The Lord Himself sends out, and recalls the mortal beings; no one else gives Him advice.

ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥
ढाहि उसारे साजि जाणै सभ सोइ ॥
Dʰaahi usaaré saaj jaaṇæ sabʰ so▫é.
He Himself demolishes, constructs and creates; He knows everything.

ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
नाउ नानक बखसीस नदरी करमु होइ ॥४॥३॥५॥
Naa▫o Naanak bakʰsees naḋree karam ho▫é. ||4||3||5||
O Nanak! The Naam, the Name of the Lord is a blessing, given to those who receive His Mercy, and His Grace. ||4||3||5||
